📌PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Janus was the god of beginnings and transitions in Roman mythology. He was usually depicted as having two faces looking in opposite ways, one towards the past and the other towards the future. This Partner Building Activity (PBA) will be designed to do that. We will look back, share and celebrate successes and look at our previous best practice but then also look forward to our collective future both in the Erasmus Plus programme 2021 – 2027 and other possible international opportunities. This will be to gain a greater understanding of changes to the overall new programme and possible future collaboration. This will also take into account the post-Brexit political situation between the UK and the EU. We will introduce the new InterCom knowledge and partnership network that we are setting up to replace Eurodesk UK.

The Partnership Building Activity will be organized in two strands, following the model we have used successfully in the past. The senior managers will discuss all policy, technical and welfare aspects of international opportunities and the new Erasmus + programme. The young people will form a multimedia team, using 360 degrees VR cameras to create innovative promotional outputs, and adding to our information and dissemination website http://www.solidarityuk.org/. Both strands will come together to share learning and ideas each day, for a final presentation at the end, and all social and intercultural activities.

Activities will include discussions, outdoor walks and talk and presentations by experts. There will be an excursion around the local area (National Park), an evening out in Keswick, an intercultural evening as well as our customary Christmas party.

📌PARTICIPANT PROFILE:

Important - Each partner will send two participants: one DIRECTOR or SENIOR STAFF MEMBER with the authority to make decisions; plus one YOUNG PERSON age 18+ (e.g. a former or future EVS volunteer, junior youth worker, or active member of the organisation).

📌ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD:

Janus 2020 will be held at the Glaramara Hotel and Outdoor Adventure Centre, which is situated in the heart of the English Lake District. For more information about where we are staying check out the website.  The full address is:

Glaramara House, Seatoller, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 5XQ, UK

The accommodation will be in twin en-suite bedrooms, divided into male and female. Towels are provided.
All meals are provided. Glaramara is famous for the quality of its food.

📌ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES:

The most efficient way to gather everyone would involve flying into a London airport and gathering together at London Euston rail station for a journey to Penrith the North Lakes where you will be met and transferred by coach to Glaramara House. The reverse would happen on the return journey. We are getting prices for the group booking from the train company so you are advised to wait before booking flights. Instruction will be sent out in the next couple of days. If you wish to arrive in the UK on an earlier date or depart later, this is possible but please note that any additional accommodation or transport will be at your own expense.

📌PREPARING FOR THE PROJECT:

Please be ready to talk about your organisation and its strategic objectives, the projects you are currently involved in, your successes and also anything that did not go so well. You are welcome to bring publicity materials from your organisation and projects but there will not be time for long presentations. We have deliberately invited decision-makers from organisations and individuals working for themselves so that we can finish the week with guaranteed project applications for the Round 1 and Round 2 Erasmus + application dates for 2022 as well as commitments to working in other international projects areas. This is a move towards a more quality-oriented approach so please come prepared to commit to actual project applications which we will start during the meeting. The programme involving the accompanying young person from each group includes film and media production. Training will be given on using media effectively for organisations and projects, as well as producing different media for the meeting itself. Participants are encouraged to bring their smartphones or tablets to use during the project.

📌INTERCULTURAL EVENING:

The theme of our intercultural evening will be “Winter Festivities Around Europe”. Please prepare a fun activity related to your own culture and traditions. This must be interactive (so tourist videos are not allowed!). MAXIMUM TIME ALLOWED for each country will be 5 MINUTES! Please also bring some traditional seasonal food and drink from your country. Note: if your country does not celebrate Christmas, you are welcome to introduce us to other kinds of holidays and traditions.

“Secret Santa”

On a Tuesday evening, we will have a traditional British Christmas dinner. We will also give each other presents. The idea of “Secret Santa” is that you do not know who has given you your present. Everyone will give one present, and everyone will get one present. It is anonymous, but fun. Please buy one gift to give. Think carefully about this, because you do not know if it will be given to a man or a woman, young or old, British or other! (But it will not be given to someone from your own country). Please do not spend more than 5 euros.

📌IT AND PHONE USE:

There is now fibre broadband Wi-Fi available in the centre; you are more than welcome to bring your laptops and other IT equipment (though we cannot be held responsible for their safety). Phone coverage is very good allowing VOIP calling. Please be sure to give your family the phone number of the centre, in case of emergency: +4417687 77222.
